Mr. Lee

Hi guys, I bought a new engine harness to replace the "sorry selfmade harness" that was installed on my 440 / 69 Charger. Now I have more wires and connectors in the new harness as I had in the old harness so I need some help and info here. Could it perhaps be that the new harness is a multiple harness for different set-ups? This is what I have and needs to be hooked up:

- New Yearone engine harness for electronic ignition: https://www.yearone.com/Product/chrysler-b-body/hu197bm
- Mopar igniotion box (pic F) and ballast resistor (pic E) and alternator regulator (pic D)

Here are pics of the wires I need info about where to hook them up, and wich need to be hooked up on 12,13,14,15 in the pic above.

A: Black connector: ?
B: White connector: ?
C: White connector: ?
1: Green wire: ?
2: Blue wire: ?
3: Blue wire: Must perhaps go to 14 ?
4: Blue wire: Must perhaps go to 15 ?
5: Brown wire: Must perhaps go to 13 ?
6: Blue wire: Must perhaps go to 13 aswell ?
7: Green + red stripe wire: Must perhaps go to 12 ?
8: Blue wire: Must perhaps go to coil + ?
9: Black wire with yellow stripe: Must perhaps go to coil - ?
10: Green wire: ?
11: Blue wire: ?

Thanks in advance   :2thumbs:

Hi,

Wires 10 and 11 are for a two field wire alternator used on 1970 and up cars. Connector A is also for the electronic regulator used on 70 and up cars. Connectors C and B are for the older 4 pin ballast resistor.

So, you have a choice of modifying your new harness or converting to the newer two field wire alternator an using the 4 pin ballast resistor. With the Orange Box ECU ignition system Chrysler suggests using the electronic voltage regulator an newer alternator. A 1970 or 71 alternator will look like the one you have now but have two field connections. You can also use a 1972 and up alternator for a little more output but, it will look a little different for the one you have now.

#12 and #13 go to a 4 prong ballast, your picture B and C

#15 and #12 will go to the regulator. your picture A

mr Lee , photo of bulk head plug please i would like to see where these wires corrisponding to your numbers locate on fire wall
shouldnt some of these be for like horn's etc, if an a/c car , wouldnt there be the aditional wire in the loom,
a Factory workshop manual comes in really handy about now , for wiring diagrams
what do you think Pete , it could be aone wire alt, the other could be horns

Yes, a factory service manual and its wiring diagrams is a must have for this kind of project. From the looks of the color codes on the wiring and connectors the harness looks like it is set up for stock alternators from 1970 on up. I doubt they would set it up for a single wire alternator without specifying that.
