Getting a "free" 1911

A small Canadian Company wanted to see their own 1911 Handguns. Problem is, making them in Canada is actually more difficult than getting them made somewhere else and shipped here. So the company contacted a manufacturer in the Philippines to start making their first run. The guns are really good quality for where they are made. Granted they aren't Colt or Kimber quality. They wanted a 1911 that shoots true for a price that anyone could afford. Average price is $400-$600 depending on the model. Remember, in Canada, a real Colt or Kimber will run you about $1000+.

I was offered a totally free 1911 from their "Warfighter" line.

These are nice but I asked about their Archangel line which were better. The Archangel line has the skeletonized trigger and hammer, rail, front grooves in the slide, grooves on the front of the grip, and most of all, adjustable sights! Also the Archangel line has another line of quality control above the Warfighter line. I was told I would have to pay the difference of $150. Perfect for me!

I opted for the Black (also available in Chrome) Archangel model in 9mm (have enough 45 ACP sidearms as is). Can't wait to get it and review it.

Looks pretty nice and the price is in line with other Rock Island/ Armscor 1911's. Every Armscor 1911 I have seen has been great quality so far.

WOW ,  a free 1911!  Very nice.  The Rock Island line of pistols down here look to be about the same price and they are a nice entry-level 1911-type pistol.  The one you got looks like a steal at that price.  Kinda wish it did not have a rail but, that is just me. I have never cared for a rail on most any of my weapons and, especially on my Govt. Models.  Yes, I do have a few Govt. Model Colts and love them.

Congrats and let us know how it shoots.

This will be the first 1911 with a rail I will own. If she shoots good I'll throw a light on and use it as my home defense gun.

They're probably the same Philippine company that builds the Rock Island line...easy enough to stamp any brand name during construction.

I've got a Rock Island 1911 and it's never had any problem of any kind.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

There are multiple companies that make 1911s in the Philippines. All decent guns for decent prices  :2thumbs:

Been looking into the one Ruger builds . Haven't had the opportunity to view one in person but I've heard good things about them. Not sure but I think they are made in the US.

I've got a Rock Island 1911 Tactical as well.  After 100 rounds it became trouble free.  I plan on getting a Kimber TLE/RL 2 because my inner gun snob says I need a nicer 1911...

Personally I'd stay away from Kimber. I've owned a couple. They are nice guns IF you get one of the nice ones. Their Quality Control has taken a nose dive over the past 6 years. They can be really hit and miss. I'd suggest a Colt, Springfield, Wilson Combat, or a Sig 1911 instead of the Kimber.

"... and use it as my home defense gun."

Really?  Is there some sort of a major issue with door-kicking-in home invasion artists there in Williams Lake?

We had the worst "per capita" crime in all of Canada. Now I think we are down to the 8th worst.

At least once a week there is a home invasion here.

Wow.  I would not have expected that.  Whatever you do, make sure your little nephew doesn't find it and hurt either himself or someone else if he's over visiting...

I have a large safe for most of my guns and my defense sidearm is locked in a biometric safe by my bed.

As for my nephew, never have to worry. His father taught him well never to touch a gun unless an adult says it's ok.

Recently I purchased a Ruger SR9 9mm. Sweet, well balanced and
an accurate hand gun.
Sold my Sprinfield Armory 1911 last year. What a mistake
that was!  :brickwall:

"most of all, adjustable sights"
You should not need that unless your aiming wrong.  :scratchchin:
I will take one and let you know my opinion.

Some companies just don't sight in their guns properly. Picked up a Sig Sauer P229. From factory it was shooting 2 feet to the right. That was mounted in a vice, not hand held. Adjustable sights just make it so much easier that tapping the sights with a hammer.

I have a nickel plated Springfield Armory 1911 that I inherited from my father.  Very nice and it gives you a nice feeling that you can actually defend your family without having to rely on the police arriving on time (which is usually after the fact).
Just wish more people would would take gun safety courses and learn how to use their guns.  Watching Marshal Dillon on TV does not count as gun safety training!
