last 6 vin digits 127846 is this a late 69 charger

TNT

No, it would be an early 69 built in 1968.

mally69

the reason i ask this is because my car i thought was r4 red well i now think it might be hemi orange when i stripped my car it was ALL orange frame rails interior averything well during the restoring process haha i removed the rear deck panel and put in a new one  i sanded down the old  rear deck panel down to the orange that was under about 3 colors and buffed out the orange and noticed that it is metallic

i am almost 1000% sure that R-4 red is NOT metallic
and hemi orange had some metallic

what do you guys think about this situation, it has me dumbfounded

The number will depend on the plant the car was built at also. In general that number would be considered more early than late though. My car was built the last week of production at St. Louis and it is over 300,000.

Your car was the 27,846th car(not just Charger) built at whatever plant it came from.

I can put your build date around 9/4/68

V2 orange was a spring of '69 introduced color.

The earliest I have registered is 5/1/69

What if his car was built at the St. Louis plant, then it would have a later build date, but not late enough for the V2 orange I don't think.

Not by much Danny...only about a month or so later at the St. Louis plant.....

So where does the big gap start to come from the St. Louis plant then? I'm guessing somewhere around february then?

There is no metallic in Hemi Orange paint. I used to think there was, but since learned that there wasn't.

Where's all the pics?

Chris, you sure about that?   Paul Memi's unrestored 70 V2 Hemi Charger has metalflake no?

Probably discussed before but, that is a cool name for a Hemi owner....Memi's Hemi has a neat ring. I had thought Hemi orange has some metal flake also. I will check my brother in laws '70 as it is still wearing some original paint yet.

Starting around January/February is when there was about a 2 month difference between the plants.  Hamtramck was in mid November 68 while St Louis was mid January.

When Hamtramck was building on January 6th, St Louis was building April 24th...thats when the gap got large

The latest St. Louis VIN I have was built on July 9th 1969 and it was in the low 300's (307XXX)!!

I'm getting a feeling I was tricked. I think even MCG's poster boy Dave Ferro from Totally Auto said there's no flake in EV2. Maybe it's suttle?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Very suttle.....you have to look real close to see it.....definately there though

I used to work at a parts house where I mixed automotive paint which was by PPG/Ditzler paints......and had mixed V2 Hemi Orange of every year it was used several times and it never called for any metallic silver at all.   Thats not saying that you couldn't put metallic silver in the paint!
But the Original formula does "not" call for any silver at all!

Well I don't know what is in the origional mix of paint and what isn't.

Dave Farro is a very knowledgeable man when it comes to Mopars. He doesn't know everything, but then again no one knows it all. From the times I've talked to him though he does know his paints. I had always thought that there was some metalic in the V2 orange.

mally69

well heres a pic this is hemi orange this is what i had it painted  it was called ev2 hemi orange definnatley has metal flake

i thought hemi orange   was origional color but i think it  was  r-4 red damn  wished i had a build sheet or fender tag

Just 6T9 CHGR

Nice ride!  As stated before your VIN sequence is too early for a V2 color.....but no tag or broadcast sheet?   Who's gonna tell you wrong?!?:)
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

mally69

thanks
thats true no one would know, id love to find my broadcast sheet ot fender tag but they are long gone most likley i think it would be cool just to have one of them and know exactly what my ride was optioned with but oh well now that this one is done its time to look for a 68 and build a 496 stroker
