Usually nothing except a block plate that blends in with the rest of the dash plastic. Otherwise it's for the rear window defroster switch if so equipped.

Was their a use for that location for the rear defroster switch in 69?  My 69 coronet has that switch in the upper dash just to the left of the heater/blower switches.
Could their have been both locations used between the two years?

That hole in the dash face was in 68 only.
