When I picked up my 73 it was coming with a 68 440. I'm not sure what its out of. Now when we went to drop the motor in the car the oil pan was hitting the cross member. Couldn't get it to drop into the motor mounts. Were the 68 pans different from the 73. If so will the 73 fit a 68 because the pan on there now will not work. It appears to be a 6 quart pan, factory style.  Been trying to look them up and I keep getting the same pictures so I have no idea.

Yes, the later 73 up cars used spool style motor mounts and a different k-frame. The pan stamped 971 is what you're looking for  :yesnod:

Ps. Just found this on Mancini's website. It looks like a reproduction 971 oilpan. Stock BB oilpans held only 4 qts with exception of the 440 6-pack and hemi which held 6 qts. The 971 holds 5 qts which is a bonus....and it fits your chassis  :yesnod:

I would call Mancini and confirm that this is a repro 971 pan and then order it if that turns out to be the case.

Thank you very helpful. Never been able to play around with an older car until this one so my knowledge doesn't go very far  :brickwall:

The clearance on the 3rd gens and big block oil pans over the K-frame is very close. With even very slightly worn motor mounts the front of the pan will contact the K-frame. I added a Milodon road race oil pan to my 73 440 and had this problem.
