Hey Gang..

Looking to troubleshoot my Vista Windows Explorer problem. I am getting the "green bar" of refreshing. When I try to open a particular folder, say with pictures in it, it takes a very long time, much longer than it used to. I defrag my system with the default defrag'er on Vista, but you can't see the status of the drive... Anyone have proven defrag'ers that are made for Vista and other microsoft OS's? Also, anyone have experience with having a similar problem with their Windows Explorer application? No matter what level I'm at, it takes much longer to load/view the contents of the folder..... I am hoping if I perform a good defragmentation, it'll make it easier/faster for the application to load the contents of any given folder..

Thanks in advance...

I have W7 now but on my old XP computer a big problem was multiple copies of explorer running.  I don't know why that happened but if I opened the task manager and shut down the extra copies things got back to normal speed.  :shruggy:

Before you do a defrag make sure to run a disk cleanup, in system tools, first. No sense defragging junk files.  Also, are you doing work in one profile. I usually have an Administrator profile, a guest and then my main profile.  I started having issues with various programs running multiple sessions and slowing down or locking up my computer. I created another profile for myself, transferred all my email (address book) and directories and web files (bookmarks/favorites). Once I made sure my new profile was OK I quit using my old profile.  Had no problems and was able to run multiple windows explorer and internet explorer with no issues. I have found that you can end up with corruption issues in a profile that does not necessarily effect another profile. I eventually deleted my old profile.

Troy....I have "System Mechanic" on all my computers....I just did a clean up and align on my hard drive in both my laptop and desk top......freed up 30gig on my laptop, and 45gig on my desk top....both run and load faster now....

I was getting the "slow green bar" while opening folders....all good now

Running Vista here as well

One more thought, if your disk is more than about 70% full I've had other computers slow down with no remedy.  I ended up burning pics off to a DVD and that really helped.   With todays massive hard drives that doesn't seem likely but just something to check.

Bryan.. Is that a free download or does it have different levels of performance with appropriate costs associated with it?

It's a one time yearly fee for all your computers...first payment was just under $30 I think...then it's been $14 after that for renewal
