68-70 repro fuel sender question (not an electrical question per se)

Is there anyone on here who has bought a reproduction 3/8 fuel sender for a 68-70 B-body that has not had problems with it?

Lets see: 55 views as of this moment and I'm the only one to respond. Yes, they ARE that bad. They work, they read, but they are not accurate. Mine was bought in 2002 and has always read below what was actually in the tank. Dixie restoration has/had been taking deposits on NEW 3/8" senders that are supposed to be built by an original supplier to Chrysler. That started in March and here we are 6 months later with no updates. I was one of the many to put up the $40 deposit in hopes that in a couple of months I'd be holding this high quality part in my hand. Sadly, that is NOT what I'm holding in my hand.

They will never read right unless you transplant your original's resistor.  Alternatively you can add resistors to the repro sending unit but it gets complicated.  I cut both resistor boxes off the units and welded the old one on the new unit.  Then I bent the arm a tiny fraction to calibrate the gauge  Today I was very cautiously driving to the gas station because my gauge told me I had about 3 gallons left.  Although I took my time calibrating these old gauges, you just can't be sure it'll work.  I pulled up to the pump and dumped exactly 16 gallons in there.  Not bad.   :coolgleamA:

Dino, you didn't happen to take photos of that did you,
I was tempted to join in on he latest batch and stopped myself, we have no proof these are any better
Mine starts reading only after half full to completely full

I bought a repop 3/8 sender unit ( 15ish years ago) , to go back after the resto ,  spent  a good few hours  / days , removing the tank on & off , etc  trying to get it to read accurately  ,  I was never 100 % happy , so I put my original sender units  , resistor / float  thingy on the  new repop sender , bit of messing a bout , but worth it  ,as it works perfect .

I don't have the original.  There are a couple of vendors out there who claim to have no problems with theirs but I'm skeptical, one claims to calibrate them first for guaranteed satisfaction.

that's why ! I done what I done , did not want to risk , spending more money on a repop parts that did not work correctaly  , I cant think who made the repop one I had , but was bought through yearone  ,

I didn't but Charger-Bodie did!  He has a thread on how to do this, I simply followed his lead.   :yesnod:
It's very easy.  The old resistor box with float arm goes in the same spot as the new box you cut off.  Then all you need to do is connect the ground strap.  I simply cut them in half and welded old onto new just like in the thread.  Works like a charm.

Here it is:  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,57267.0.html

Once done I put it in the tank and filled it with 10 gallons.  The needle read low so I adjusted the float arm until it read a hair over half a tank.  I filled it up yesterday and it's right on the money over the entire range.  My gauge told me I had about 3 gallons left and I put exactly 16 gallons in so I'd say that's pretty precise.   :yesnod:

Is there only one company making them?

I thought there were at least two companies making them when I bought mine ,  but might well be wrong !  mine was /is like the one (charger-bodie) had it his thread !  the plating  of the sender was almost like chrome , not sure what the correct word is for that type of plating ? :shruggy:

It is now sounding like there may be a company out there repopping good ones.
