Hi;
I have a 1969 dodge charger, with drum brakes. The brake pedal is bottomed out,no brakes, master cylinder is filled up, no leakes at the wheels either. I put a new master cylinder and powerBooster on when I rebuilt the car, 2 years ago. I think the powerbooster
is out and needs replaced. Everything was open when I installed. The charger manual says just unscrew the 4 screws and disconnect
linkage and take booster out. Now, how do I get the booster off without taking the steering column off? I can get to the 2 left side
screws on the booster but not the 2 right side. How do you do it? Can it be done? I hope so. What tools do I need. Please, I need advise. Please Help.
thank you.

When i take boosters out of cars at wrecking yards, i use a deep 1/2 inch swivel socket, 3/8 drive, at the end of a 12 inch extension, and go for it.

Of course your application may be different, but just a tool sugestion for you.

(Tape the swivel portion of the socket, so it doesn't "flop" around, all over the place, and you will be just fine.)

 :iagree: The swivel socket and long extension are indispensable when removing boosters.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I did this once with a 1/4 in drive ratchet and deep socket.  Getting the socket in place was a challenge and the ratchet would only move 1/2 of a click.  Pulling the wrench out and placing the socket one flat turn on the sq. drive allowed me to place the wrench back on the nut and get the rest of the click.  A real pain but was made worse by rough threads and the nut didn't spin off. Had to use this process all the way off :eek2:
I got a swivel socket to put it back together.  :2thumbs:

It may be more than you want to do, but with the instrument cluster out you have pretty good access.

yes what dino said ,
:2thumbs:seems like a lot of work but cluster comes out easily , then you can see what you are doing as well

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Will try as suggested.

Are you sure it's the booster? Generally when a booster goes out, the pedal is rock hard when the engine is running.

The reason mine was going to the floor is that the front line at the MC was loose and was allowing air into the system causing squishy pedal

Or worse.  That time when the vacuum hose came off the manifold I had one hell of a time bringing that car to a stop.  Manual brakes need some extra pressure but not that much!  Scary as hell.
