What causes flooding on low speed, part throttle driving carb or fuel pump?

Still holding out to get a Demon carb and swap for this crappy Edelbrock on my 73 Charger 400. A hot rod guy came over and did some adjusting and got it right. We drove it around and he said it's good to drive it's just too small, the 4bbl doesn't kick in unless you manually shift it. It did the same thing on my friends 80 El Camino 350 and he had one that leaked from the shaft right out of the box so he swapped for an OEM carb. I still don't trust it enough to drive it more than around my area. I'm having another carb issue with this 65 Valiant 1bbl Holley. It does good and starts up fairly easily. Takes a bit for it to stay running when you start it up. I drove it and it has good power but sometimes when you give it gas too quickly it floods out and shuts off. Especially if you floor it from a stop. I know it's flooding out because you have to hold your foot on the gas to get it to start up after it shuts off. Is that a bad carb or fuel pump? I changed the filter a few days ago. The fuel tank, lines and carb are maybe a year old. The carb is a remanufactured parts store carb. I'm trying to get this Valiant to the point where I can start driving it on the road too. I think it might do better than the Charger with everything original.

It sounds like there could be some dirt or debris hanging the float open or possibly the float is adjusted too high ?

Time to adjust the float level and if that doesn't work pull it apart for inspection.
