Best way to clean/protect my old bumper?

Forgive me if I asked something like this before. I'm in the process of replacing my 70 Charger bumper and grill. I have the grill out and am removing the bumper frame today so I'd like advice on cleaning and protecting the chrome hoop part of the assembly? I'm not really concerned about polishing it as I understand that may harm the chrome in the long run.   :shruggy:

I asked a similar thing recently as well, I hear a good coat of wax helps a lot.

I haven't bought wax in 25 years as all my cars are/were crap. What kind do you use?  :shruggy: Would fine steel wool hurt chrome if used lightly?

Ghoste

I've heard of people using steel wool on chrome but I've never done it.  I figure its abrading the surface just as a polish, how bad is your chrome?
Any paste wax I guess.

While much "nicer" than the original it has minor light speckles and scratches. I'll just get some good wax and try cleaning with that then. The beast is a driver anyway, my motto has been "above all do no harm" for 19 years anyway.

Any chrome polish has abrasives in them so they are a no-no as is steel wool. Bad juju that.
I'd just clean it with some mild soapy water, rinse and then apply a thorough coat of
carnauba wax. Wipe on - wipe off grasshopper, only then will you be content with what is.
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!
