Question is, will Ford and Chevy build a response to this car, or will they leave it uncontested like they did the SRT 10 Ram?

Ghoste

Good question.  Ford might, at least I think more likely they will than GM.

JB400

I'm kind of in doubt that Ford would build a car to go head to head with the Charger.  The most likely candidate would be the Ford Falcon from Australia, but it's getting axed.  If there's a manufacturer that'd build something to compete, I'm thinking Cadillac.

If only they made them RHD they would sell heaps in Australia.

SHO Taurus ?

Maybe Chevy using one of the Holden bodies and putting in a corvette motor.

SHO Taurus, not....   They would need to use the supercharged motor from the mustang and not sure it would fit.

They already have it (only 415 HP currently):

My boss has one. I walked right past it in the parking lot assuming it was just another family sedan. At least the Charger has that going for it - it doesn't look like every other car!

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Thanks Troy,  I couldn't remember it but thought they did have it.

But, is Chevy willing to take the SS to the next step and maybe stick the LS9 or the LSA in it?

If they don't limit production and all other things being equal I wonder which will sell more - Hellcat Challangers or Hellcat Chargers?

A good question.  So how does the conversation go at the dinner table?  Honey I want a new car.  Yeh--- will the kids fit in and we can go camping with it?---Sure and we can get there really fast and get back home fast too.

I'm interested to know from someone that is considering a hellcat charger,---What are the considerations? :smilielol:

Edit--I need to add that I'm just about to order a hellcat challenger and face the questions myself. My cats are all for it so it's a go from the home family perspective. My son is sort of stunned. My daughter doesn't have a clue on the issue. For me it's something to enjoy even if I never get close to feeling the potential of the car.  I think I represent a typical buyer. :icon_smile_wink:

Challenger by far.   HellCat Charger beomes (sadly) a halo car for the guy who buys the V6 version and wants to feel cool about his purchase.   How many slant 6 Coronets were sold because Super Bees were cool?  Probably a LOT.

This is my fav write up on the Hellcat so far.

And my favourite description in the article:

When you can get this thing to hook hard, the feeling is akin to a visceral punch to the gut. The pull is downright scary, and then it becomes intoxicating. I would love nothing better than to be able to take a Hellcat to a super long stretch of highway (10 miles at least please) and put it in 6th gear at about 20 miles an hour, mash the go pedal, and just feel how the car pulls and pins you back in your seat and continues to apply more and more pressure until you are sure that you have an angry 1,000 pound cat sitting on your chest demanding that you stop breathing. All the while you have that li'l twinge in your heart and nethers telling you that you are in way over your head, and you will die.

I'm very fortunate, in that my wife loves cars and motorcycles just as much as I do, so no considerations at all when we bought our Challenger.

I will say this though, with the exception of maybe installing/removing a child seat, almost all of the arguments about why people "need a sedan" (IE why the sedan needs to be called charger) don't hold water.  My '11 challenger and my '69 charger both have plenty of backseat room, plenty of trunk room, and are just as "convenient" as the sedan.  Our two sons were 15 and 17 when we bought the Challenger and we all fit just fine.  The new Challengers are more convenient for car shows too, in that they actually seem to fit in better.

We didn't even have any of the sedans show up at our all mopar show this year (well, technically we had one, but he was 20 years old and entered it in the "young guns" class...).  There were about 17 new Challengers, the most of any class at the show.  Everything else was between 0 and 6 cars per class.  We didn't get any jeeps this year either, very strange...

Almost forgot:    :horse:

(before someone does it to me for, ya know, speaking my mind...)

I agree, read that this morning.  It's pretty amazing right now, lots of reviews, videos and articles being released about the hellcat Challenger, and I haven't seen a single negative comment yet.  On the one hand, the car is awesome, and on the other hand I think a lot of the media are finally starting to "get" the Challenger.  It's not a "sports car" it's a muscle car... big burley and powerful!  Now it's all of that on steroids!  (and man does that sublime green look good!)

ChargerSG

Still to make the Charger a 4 door lost me right away. The Challenger is another thing, there they learned but that still make a Charger as they do :rotz:

Very cool. I'll be watching for this Hellcat for sure.  :yesnod:
