steering shaft keys

Aagh; one more steering question please fellas. I went to couple my steering column to my new steering gearbox today, and I had the top of the collapsable end of the steering column come off, and the guts came out on the floor. As we all know, in the box you have the 2 "dog bone" shaped keys that go on the pin at the end of the steering shaft, and the clip. When put together they all slide back into the box and provide a bit of movement if needed in the connection with the splined end pinned. I want to clarify which way the keys go on the end of the shaft to ensure I have it right, as it looks like I could maybe make it work both ways. Couldnt find a good diagram in the shop manual.
Soooooo, I know the flat side of each key goes towards the shaft and the curved side goes out toward the edges of the box; what I want to clarify after all this rambling is do the "dogbone" shaped keys go perpendicular to the steering shaft (I dont think so; they seem to tight), or do they go parallel to the steering shaft? Anyone got a picture or diagram of the endshaft and keys and clip put together before they slide into the splined box?

The shoes flats go side to side in the coupling body with the shoe spring under both shoes, per FSM. Orient the wheel/steering shaft to the coupling body to match the master spline indicator on steering input shaft.
