I was just wondering if the lifters in a 318 are the same as 383 440 400??? thanks

No, oiling hole in different location

not true... yes will fit... my 400 had to get SB lifters because some weird reason, with the Crower 282 cam ( not an agressive hilift cam ), the BB lifters didn't get filled with oil

Aftermarket lifters are often different than factory lifters. Factory SB lifters in a BB will often expose the oil groove at maximum lift and drop the oil pressure. Most aftermarket lifters have the oil groove located so as to work in either BB or SB (and AMC).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Jonhsons lifters ( topline ) are exact replacements to the stock ones... I got BB ones ( 976s ) from them for my 400 and didn't work with my cam... they sent me SB ( 2011s ) to replace those at no charge and worked.

Now... why or what happened? dunno

sorry for my previous reply. I was stating what I read in a mopar muscle magazine a few years ago.

well, you are right they are diff, but I meant that even they are diff they fit... now, which one if is better or not for some applications, that's a diff story ( I thought to read you were telling they don't fit ). I'm just sharing my experience on this.

so my bad if I added some confusion in here

here they are side by side

2011 ( "SB" ) on the left, 976 ( "BB" ) on the right:

and used on my car, where the 976s didn't work with my actual Crower 282HDP cam... but a new in the box MP 280/474 got the 976 kind too.

Probably due the "higher" lift of the Crower piece? dunno ( I don't consider the Crower as a high lift... ) :shruggy:
