Anyone else see the Camaro ad saluting the Mustang?

Chevrolet recently ran an ad with a Camaro done up like a birthday cake for the Mustangs 50th.  It thanked them for 50 years of rivalry and that was all.  No promoting themselves or backhanded insults.  Pretty classy I thought.

Pretty cool and a great way to show how much better the Camaro looks than the 2015 mustang.    :eek2:

So...

In those 50 years of continuous Mustang production... :scratchchin:

How many of those years was the Camaro NOT being built ?  :shruggy:

Camaro production started in '67 and lasted until '02 until it was brought back in '08.

That was pretty good for them to do that.  Of course, without the Barracuda, there wouldn't be a Mustang, or a Camaro. ;)

Corrected

Quite actually the other way around, "without the Mustang, there wouldn't be a Barracuda or Camaro around" granted the Barracuda's actual production release was announced 2 weeks before Ford's first Mustang rolled off the production line, the first preproduction Mustang was unveiled in Oct 7 1962 in New York, this caused Chrysler to follow suit with "redesigning" the Valiant line for a competitor, the Camaro wasn't on the drawing boards until April of 1965, and released in Sept of 66.....Chevrolet was actually the fastest of the 3 to get a car into production from concept to reality, but Ford was the first with the "Pony Car" idea

And it never mattered much anyway.  As much as I love Mopar, the first Barracuda was butt ugly car compared to the Mustang and the sales figures of the time bear out my opinion.  They could have released the Barracuda six months before the Ford and unveiled the concept first and Mustang would still have killed it on the showroom floor.

I love the barracuda, but it took your comment to make me realize that it isn't because its pretty.   :yesnod:

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Ghoste

Butt ugly may have been harsh.
There's no denying the better engineered car was outsold so it must be because of styling?

JB400

Plymouth made it look good from the rear.  That's all the competition needs to see

Ghoste

Honestly I'm just not crazy about them from any angle.

myk

With exception to the 60's/70's, is there some reason why it took Ford until 2011 to have a Mustang GT that could at least perform as good as a 1993 Camaro Z28; a car almost 20 years older?  Let's not even bother to mention that embarrassing LS1 versus 4.6L debacle.  Seems to me that Ford should be the one saluting...
