Hey folks,

I visited a private car collection here in Newfoundland yesterday and was awe struck by the collection of ~60 rare cars, spanning all makes/models and years. A 70 Top Banana Hemi Charger caught my eye and I asked the owner about the car. Apparently its been well documented in magazines that this heavily optioned Charger was bought by a 15 year old kid back in the day and sold a year later. The next owner had it for 30 years until he passed away. The car was then sold a few times, ended up at a SEMA show and reunited with its original owner for some pictures etc. Quite a story. The car is now in Newfoundland, purchased from RK Motors a year or two ago. As I was reading the spec's on the car it was identified that the performance hood with HEMI engine call out was a one of one in 1970. I've noticed a few Chargers over the years with the HEMI engine call out and didn't think that this was a rare option. I assumed that a lot of the Hemi's would have the engine call out option. The car was Govier inspected, so I guess it is a 1 of 1, and every other 70 Hemi Charger with the engine callout is not legitimate? I find this hard to believe.

Additional details on the Charger can be found on the RK Motors website.

This has no bearing on me, just a discussion point. Thoughts?

Nice Charger but I would be skeptical of the "one-of-one" description. It certainly might be "one-of-one" that GG ever looked over.

That said, I haven't actually looked at a lot of '70 Chargers and have never seen one with the engine C.I.D. callouts on it, no matter what size engine in person.
Back when the cars were new, I think most people would rather have you "guessing" the C.I.D. of the engine rather than having a billboard-size callout stating it!

Also, if the "HEMI" callouts were installed, did they omit the HEMI emblem from the front fender? The yellow Charger seems to tell us that! I really do not know and am wondering.

According to that YouTube video, there were only 56 1970 Hemi Chargers built, and "one-of-one" refers to the color combination. I suspect that with only 56 of them built, every one of them is a "one-of-one" in some respect or another.

And RK Motors does have a bit of a reputation for playing up the astonishing rarity of anything they sell.

So what made a 16 year old boy, give up a 70 Hemi Charger? :scratchchin:
Bet it was his Insurances rates!

The 1 of 1 I was questioning was the engine call out. I agree that since the Hemi's were limited in production that most are 1 of 1 in some respect.

The story I was told was that he traded it in on a 71 R/T 440. Probably a good idea at the time. Who would've anticipated the rapid decline in 1970?

The call out on its own would not make it one of one although it wouldn't surprise me if, like I said, RK sold it that way.  As someone else mentioned, it may be the only Top Banana colored 70 with the call out.

Makes sense. thanks for the info.

The 1 0f 1 hullabalu is in regards to the car having BOTH the engine I.D. callouts on top of the V21 Black accents.  Usually 70 Chargers had one or the other but not both.   I did some work on this car when it was owned by a gentleman here in Arizona.  Nice driving car.  I remember taking the owner for a ride after I did some work on it and he told me to "Drive it like your own hemi charger".  I hit 2nd gear VERY HARD and scared the shit out of him :o
Hey ,man... that's what they were built for :icon_smile_big:

If you got the hood ID callouts were the Hemi emblems on the fenders then deleted? Was it one or the other? Just trying to understand. Learn something everyday I guess.

Thanks

She is quite the car, Vernon is a well known car collector. He is an outstanding man and a really nice person to talk to. He has a nice 70 Challenger r/t 440 six pack car now as well. This is his website that he has if anybody wants to take a look, there's a lot of respectable cars there for sure. http://www.vernonsantiquetoyshop.ca/

I can't say for sure if the hemi badges on the fenders were deleted if the car had the hood callout decals.  I think they were deleted but I can't say for 100%.
