Every time I pass through a city I wonder if there are any hidden gems tucked away, waiting to be saved. recently I was working in Fort Bragg CA. After work one day I decided to cruise the streets in search of a derelict Duster or a Charger that someone gave up on. I thought it would be more fun than watching TV in the hotel room.
Forget Ft Bragg. There is nothing there worth restoring.
I figured that since this is a coastal town, a person would have to PAY to have a car towed away making it more likely that they'd just let a car sit and rot.
If I wanted to "restore" a mid 80s Chevy truck, I'd have my choice of many. Vws, old Toyotas, a few Volvos.....
Like I wrote, Nothing worth restoring. I'm still hoping to find something in a small town someday. It would make a nice story

I have the same curiosity every time I drive by all the barns here in Sonoma and Napa counties. You just know
there are muscle cars of all makes squirreled away in them. I have heard several stories from guys
in the car club I belong to who know about a few and have seen cars.......and they are not telling.
I wouldn't either if there was a chance to acquire one down the road.
As is often the case the cars will never see the light of day until the owner passes on and their estate is sold off.

Your about 20 yrs too late for the mopars, but you better get on those 80's chevy trucks before they disappear too!

Owner: "yeah, I guess you'd be bout the 20th person today to ask about this old thing. Put it here in 1978. Been here all these years."

You: "so, is it for sale?"
Owner: "well, I know it's got some rust, but you know you don't see these no more. I've been offered X amount, but I guess like anything else, everything's for sale for the right amount"

You: "so you're asking X amount then?"
Owner: "well, I said I've been offered that. What's it worth to ya?"
You: "about all I could give being it's gonna need alotta work is C amount"..
Owner: "nah, couldn't let it go for that.  Hell, seen on of these on that ass monkey garage show go for way more-n-nat."
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

I thought Ft. Bragg was in NC  :scratchchin:

East coast - west coast locales.

One produces elite members of our "pointy end of the stick" types,

The other produces mostly dope heads. Used to be known for its timber and seafood though.

There are some hippies here, thats for sure!
Not as many attractive people around here compared to some other towns I've worked in. I don't like seafood, I dont drink and it is too cold to surf here!

Coastal towns promote rust, old cars often don't survive in them.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I used to live about 500 feet from the Atlantic Ocean.  I bought an '84CJ7 with no rust anywhere on it, and it sat outdoors for 6 months until I moved back to TN - I got to working on it when I got back and while it's not bad, there's surface rust everywhere that wasn't covered by grime underneath.  And that was only 6 months of sitting outside.

I can attest to what the weather here does to things. I'm working a remodel on the local High School. Every time a wall is opened up, there is a 50/50 chance of finding wood rot that needs to be removed and reframed with new lumber.
