Where does the radio feed wire get its power from.Mine seems to have got hot and melted the insulation. It is melted to clear to the fuse box.Where does it originate and get its power from?

Dino

The main power splice behind the dash feeds the fuse box, from there a red/tracer wire runs to the radio which powers it.  Easy enough to run the new wire, question is why did it burn?  The back up light switch is fed by the same fuse (actually a linked fuse).  Do the back up lights work?

The power wire coming in got hot.Where is the power wire connected?

Dino

Small correction:  the black wire running to the fuse box comes from the ignition switch splice.  The power feed for the fuse box is a red with tracer wire that comes from the main splice.  The radio's red tracer wire is another that has nothing to do with the splice but simply connects it to the fuse box.

The main power splice behind the dash traces back to the middle bulkhead connector, slot P.  On the engine bay side it is the black wire running to the power lug on the alternator.  The other end of the power system starts at the starter relay and runs through a fusible link to middle bulkhead connector slot J. It goes through the firewall under the dash and to the ammeter.  From there another wire runs to the main splice to close the circuit.  In effect if you remove the ammeter and connect those two wires, it also closes the circuit.

Hope this helps.  I can post a diagram later and color the power wires but it'll have to wait until this afternoon.  I have a midterm to do this morning.

I marked the main power run.  Red is from battery to starter relay to ammeter through the bulkhead.  Green picks up at the ammeter and runs to the main splice.  From there it goes to light switch, ignition switch and fuse box and back to through the bulkhead and to the alternator lug.  The dark red is the power feed for the radio.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dino. You are awesome. That is a huge help. That is above and beyond anything I expected.

Dino

My pleasure!  I went through all this myself and received a ton of help from some very knowledgeable people here so I am more than willing to pass it on.

Let me know if you need more help.
