Hey folks,

I'm looking for help decoding the numbers on the 727 transmission on my 70 R/T. I found 3C127051. Am I correct in thinking the 127051 is a partial VIN? It doesn't match the rest of the Charger, so I'm not sure if the 727 was supposed to have the VIN stamped or if this is some sort of date coding? And I have no idea what the 3C means?

Once again, I've read a few articles, but am still a little confused. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

The number stamped on the raised pad on the bellhousing is a partial VIN; the 3 designates the model year 1973, the C is the factory code for the Jefferson assembly plant. I believe Jefferson built C/Y bodies in '73.

The stamped numbers on the pan rail on the drivers side are the part number, build date and sequence number, they will tell the exact application.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks. I guess I have a replacement transmission.
