Title number

Hello,

Looking to find more about the history of my car, I would like to as if it is possible to find with the title number the state in which it was registered .
I have an Illinois title and it mentions as previous title number : H7HZ91337000. This was in 1996. Does anybody know perhaps or has a title with a number H7HZxx and can tell me the state of that title.

As I live in Europe it is much more difficult to find out some details of the history of the car.

Hello Robert! Unfortunately, that isn't as easy as it once was. You can still try to write to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMVs)in the States surrounding Illinois and see if they are helpful. You can also start by asking Illinois if they have a record of where your car came from (they likely do, but they may not share that information). Under the weak argument of "security", most bureaucracies these days are not very willing to do anything beyond their "normal" duties in dealing with the public.  "Privacy" and "security" are the new buzzwords they hide behind.

All I can suggest is that you explain your situation as nicely as you can and hope you get a sympathetic reader somewhere. You'll never know if you don't try.
