I picked up my new mini starter today, for the 440.  I went with DB Electric as many people had recommened on the site.

Cant belive the size diffrence !!  This also means I have an Origianl 68 Starter for sale if anyone is looking for one!! Works flawlessley .... just to big hahahha

Mopar4me

The old gear reduction starters make good boat anchor's. I put a Mopar Performance lightweight starter on my car about 15 years ago at the time it was pretty much the only choice there was. The biggest benefit I like about this starter is how much quicker the car starts.

That looks like the one I bought from Summit. Yep, much more efficient.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

I priced one at Napa  $104 plus $42 core charge, plus tax = $160

DB off Ebay , $75USD  = $85 CAN. Free shipping to parcel pick , drove over the boarder and picked it up myself ! Save myself $80

If you remove this elec fitting from the MP starter for both the BB and SB V-8 applications.(esp the BB) It fits the block and less hassles when trying to get it wired up.

Another pic showing where to grind(few seconds w/grinding wheel) on the side of the starter for a little block clearance, it was touching the block which wouldn't allow it to mount flush on the trans case.

I got myself the same DB starter and like it so far.  I do plan on getting a heat wrap for it eventually as I am running headers and, as always, clearances are tight.

Is this retrofitting necessary on the DB starter as well, or just the MP starter?

Myk- I picked up a Denzo mini starter at Carlisle last year. Same thing as Tubedriver. Had to remove the plastic extension and grind down the bolt for the battery lead for it to fit.
72 Charger- Base Model
68 Charger-R/T Clone
69 Charger Daytona clone
79 Lil Red Express - future money pit
88 Ramcharger 4x4- current money pit
55 Dodge Royal 2 door - wife's money pit
2014 RAM 2500HD Diesel

Remove the terminal adapter, grind the case to clear the block.
I think I had to trim down the main power lug for clearance also.
MP, Denso, it appears all the starters are the same....

I bought a starter from NAPA, ask for a 98 Ram, 318 Magnum starter, no grinding, just removed the plastic piece and installed.

I threw the starter in today, removed the extension and it went right in. The positive post is fairly close to the block, but I don't think I am gonna take it down any.

Unfortuantly I still couldnt' get my driver header in by myself !!! Even with the mini I still need need to slide them up together which as far as I am concerned is a two person job!!

It is VERY cloase to sliding past with starter bolted up but I just can't seem to get it. If I was on a hoist and had a little more freedom wiht the angle of the header I think I would probably snake it threw but thats not an option.  A little upsetting that i didnt' get them in today, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel !!!

Tape the starter to the header in roughly in the right place, that way you can concentrate on getting the header in

The prospect of shaving some pounds off of my front end is very tempting.  Did any of you guys have to shim your starters to get them to work properly?

You do have to grind off part of the battery cable terminal so it doesn't touch the block.  When I took off the extension I used the flatter nut on the terminal.  I also put the battery cable on before I stabbed the starter.

I used to have to pump the gas pedal to start the car and now it just turns right over because it's spinning the motor better.  Can't believe I didn't put one of these on sooner because I always hated the choked chicken sound that the old started made.
