Hello, I was just curious if I could still run power brakes with the Comp magnum 280H? I got this cam and lifters for free so I couldn't say no. But I was just wondering before I went ahead and installed it in my car. It's a 1973 charger se 440 with 727.
Here is the cam specs http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=701&sb=2
Thanks

Welcome Travis,

That cam is going to be a bit much for a stock 440 with low compression, inmo. It could work with a loose converter and deep rear end gears but it won't make much idle manifold vacuum...certainly not enough to run a PB booster.  :Twocents:

Ron, I forgot to mention it's a 69 440 with 10.1 compression. I'm putting a 3000 converter in it and it has 3.55's in the rear now. I'm thinking about going with 3.73's though. It has a edelbrock performer on it now, hooker ceramic coated headers 1 7/8 tubes, full 2.5" exhaust with an x pipe, and a 670 holley street avenger but I'm ordering a 770 or 870 street avenger.

Well that certainly changes things  :icon_smile_big:

With 10:1 static and a dual plane manifold it should make lots of manifold vacuum if you dial in the timing curve. The key to maximizing vacuum, throttle response and off idle/top end power is the timing curve.

Basicly you want to dial in as much base timing that the engine will tolerate while limiting the mechanical advance to 36* total coming in at 3000 rpm or thereabouts.

Thanks! So I should be fine with this cam?

Yep, good match with your combination of compression, stall and rear end gearing.  :2thumbs:

Thanks Ron, I appreciate your time and help. I figured I should be fine but I just wanted to double check.

I added a vacuum reservoir from cam dynamics to my 68 R/T and it allowed me to run the mopar 292 .509 cam in my 440 and still have power brakes. This was with a 10 converter and 3.91 rear.
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!
