Random Hole in the Floor

There is a seemingly random hole in my floor just ahead and to the left of the left front bolt of the driver's seat. Before I fill it, is it supposed to serve any purpose? The clip for the speedometer is well forward of this spot and it doesn't seem to be associated with the parking brake cable or the brake line.

It can't be too random because the formed portion beside goes around the hole.  Is it maybe just a drain for when the body came out of the dipping?

Had I remembered that these cars are somewhat bilaterally symmetrical, I might have looked at the other side and seen a similar hole filled with a body plug.  ::)

Strangely, the hole edge is tweaked, as if something were bolted in there and then gotten hit sideways, but the channel on either side of the hole isn't damaged. So I'll just straighten that edge and insert the proper plug.

Thanks for all the input.

Dino

Someone likely removed the plug with a hammer and/or screw driver, that'll do it.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I thought some of these holes were alignment holes for the original manufacturing??   The parts were mounted on jigs with dowels and the parts were fitted over them before welding.   Others were probably drain holes for the dips these old cars went thru (which wasn't as much as todays cars.)  Anyone know??

Ghoste

It was like seven tanks they went through, how many do they go through now?

Ghoste,
given the amount of rust on mine to begin with , I think mine missed all the tanks for rust proofing,
