I did a search but can't find any post relating to this topic. I have a 70 w/auto on the column. I'm rebuilding my steering column. In the process I'm replacing the ignition switch. I notice the new switch is not complete(the key buzzer is sold separately & some wires are not in the connector). The biggest thing that is different is a black wire(smaller gauge) that runs from the connector to the upper center of the new ignition switch, on my original switch the wire is orange comming out of the connector & it attaches to the gear indicator light(& no wire goes to the upper center of the original switch). What do I do? Do I have the wrong switch? I checked pics in yr one & on other places they all look like the new one i have. I guess I cut the black wire & attach to my orange wire.   :icon_smile_question:

or just remove the blk wires from the connector & insert the orange wire to the light in the hole in the connector

I also have found those kind of switches with a thin black wire on the orange place. I think the one I found was Valley Forge. No prob. As stated by Chyco, just remove that wire and put your orange one.

I don't know what's the reason of that wire, but the fact is that I think is an extra accesories wire.
