I had a Carter M4845 crap out in less than 2 years and now I may have another. I'll know this weekend.  :scratchchin: If this one is bad I'm cutting it open to find out how it's failing. I'm thinking the ethanol is eating diaphragms. (sp?)
I used upgraded parts on the six pack to deal with this when I rebuilt it and it's been fine.

I haven't had that problem yet, (knock on wood). I'd be interested in what you find if you open up the pump.

As far as the upgrade parts you used on your six pack what brand did you use and where did you buy them if you don't mind sharing that information?

The float needle tips are Viton (Like the valve seals you can get.) and the newer type gaskets (Blue.) that are considered "reusable" all are ethanol resistant. Several vendors on eBay knew what was talking about and had the parts. They are common interchange parts.
If you want I'll dig up any info for ya I can find.

Not with mechanical or puller type pumps but I have had to replace several sump style fuel pumps thanks to ethanol.   :brickwall:

Thanks for the info.     Mine are still okay but I figure it's just a matter of time before I start having problems.

The only disavantage with the ready to run system is when the ECU craps out you left on the side of the road. The external ECU is a 5 minute change.  :Twocents:

Yea I hear ya, given the advancements in electronics I see no need to have an ECU, resistor or coil that needs a resistor anymore than I want an alternator that puts out 8-10 amps at idle. Given my FBO box still shows volts off the top of the transistor that is not what failed I believe.  :yesnod:
In my case stuck at the far end of a sweeping curve on a 6 lane (divided) highway, with a steel guard rail continuous to my right for another 200 yards and A-holes passing everyone in the slow lane only to have to slam on the brakes or swerve into traffic in the other lanes...hanging out "under the hood" for any reason was not an option.  :eek2:
I'm lucky, nobody got harmed and there was no damage to any cars. I can make more money and have more time to fix it so it's all good!   :2thumbs:
