Hey gang......

OK, don't laugh........... I'm a Texan who doesn't use his fireplace a whole lot. What the heck is this lever used for? I have a natural gas feed. The lever for the damper is already open up inside the smoke chamber.....

I think you are referring to the metal pin that keeps your screen in place?  With a wood burner if the screen is not in place popping wood could cause a fire outside the stove pot.

What lever?

Looking at the pic, I was going to ask the same question.

I'm pretty sure it's for locking and unlocking the catch for removal or opening of the screen. Does the lever swivel?

That's because it's not a thread I started.   :icon_smile_big:

If it was a wood heater, I'd say it was to control a slow or a fast burn. Close the vent and it becomes a slow burn, open it and it burns fast.  Don't know if gas heaters are the same. So I'll stick with locking and unlocking the catch for removal or opening of the screen.

I think it's a vent control, selects between drawing in using outside air or room air.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
