Is this electronic ignition module stock?

When I bought my Charger, it was already half stripped including the engine. I found this in the engine bay and didn't think the 68 had an option for electronic ignition. Was this factory or something that was done by a po?

1972 Dodge Dart - 318
1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
1971 Ford F250 Four Door
1972 GMC Jimmy

Its something that was added by a previous owner.  No electronic in 68.

Hi,

Ghoste is absolutely correct, on a 68 the ignition system still used a breaker point system. The Chrysler electronic ignition module didn't appear until 1972 in corporate and fleet cars as a field trial. It went across the board in all models in 1973. From the picture that appears to be an early one. Its a good modification on earlier cars as it eliminates the points which, I understand are getting quite pricey. I converted my 71 over to electronic ignition after I got tired of putting points in around an air conditioning line that ran right over the top of the distributor on a B block.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I converted my 1971 F250 over to electronic as points were a pain in the neck. I also had a 72 Dart with points that needed frequent adjustment so I know I won't be going down that road with the Charger.

I'll just toss this piece then. I'm probably going to go with MSD for the build.

Hello from The R/T Garage,
Cool Car. Just wondered if you have checked out The Rev-N-Nator before you have totally rewired your car? Its a factory stock looking application, all OEM, plug n play with rev limiter. Not trying to do a sales pitch.
Just wanted to make sure you knew about this cool option. check out website thertgarage com  and a current  article running in moparmax com  magazine volume 10  October 2013. Might find it interesting. Good luck to you.... :drive:

Didn't mean it to...just tried to sum up what it was and how you can check it out in a few words.
Mopars is what we do and The Rev-N-Nator has been our blood and sweat for years,  to make, what we thought would be a perfect application for the Mopar guy. I have been working and doing  restoration on high end Mopars, as well as drivers for 25+ yrs and have removed so many msds , I can not count... Because this is our " passion " , not just a way to try to make money ( believe me, inventing the " clapper " would have been a whole lot easier than a high end electronic piece!) we felt this is something the mopar world needed. Another option. And of course, we like to make sure people know about it.  It is a Kool piece for the guy who doesn't want to rewire his car or hide their box, look stock and have some perks with it. Getting named Top aftermarket for 2012 is an honor and we worked very hard to get there.   So take it as you like....and as I have already said...Good luck to you with whatever you decide to do. Trying to help out a fellow Mopar head.
