How did I do?  What would you do differently next time? What would you recommend for trans upgrades?

What torque convertor would be a good choice for a street machine.  I intend to DRIVE her and this means car shows, road trips, cruise nights, maybe a power tour someday...   I have a line on a new TCI 141200 breakaway for stupid cheap, would it be a good choice or a waste of money?

Thanks!

Ok, I'll bite  :icon_smile_big:

Combo looks good, the only thing i don't like is the Pertronix ignition. Other than that the build looks well sorted out and should work very nicely.  :2thumbs:

As for the converter,

My preference would be a better quality piece like the Turbo Action 11in "street hemi" piece  :yesnod:

What don't you like about the Pertronix?  Most everyone I know has been very happy with their pertronix setups.

Have you been looking at my bookmarks?  That's one of the converters that is in serious contention.  I have also been looking at PTC, how do those do? I've already kinda ruled out hughes/BM/TCI.

I would look at a stock 400 Police Converter if you can find a transmission warehouse. It will give you a 2200 RPM stall and I think the flash is about 2300. You will need to knock off the counter weight that is weld on for the cast crank 400 but that is simple.

I added one in the 69 Charger before I installed the Blown 440. (used it behind the blown 440 as well) Charger has 2.76 Sure Grip and 265/60/15 and it really woke up the old motor. Even with 2.76 gears I could rip the hides on a 15 MPH roll!

TCI? Been told there failure rate is 10% :scratchchin: That information came from a strictly Mopar Only shop! They stopped using TCI after they where told by TCI that TCI was fine with a 10% failure rate? :scratchchin:

Care to elaborate why the petronix was a bad choice? All I heard was praise for folks who went from points to it.

My selection would be for 11 inch convertor also any thing form 2000 to 2300, 2500 for this engine, going to a 10 inch convertor is just adding heat as another issue

Pertonix can be troublesome and unreliable....many have had issues with them in the past. Ask Marc (Ridelikehell) what he thinks about pertronix.  ;)

PTC is a descent converter as well and so is Dynamic....but for your build the TA street hemi converter would be my first choice  ;)

Reliability is an issue. I also don't like the cheezy mechanical advance mechanism they use in their distributors.  :P

When it comes time to fine tune you timing curve you'll wish that you had something that is better built & designed.  :yesnod:
