Hi,

Im new charger world. Currently in process of selling my 76 633CSi, and wanted to pick up my dream car. My budget is on the low side :( I cant really get a grasp on prices, so im looking for your help.

My absolute favorite is 68, followed by 70 and then 69. I dont really care for originality, i would actually prefer a modernized car. I would want a powerful engine and would love a manual.

I found a 71, it looks like it was restored, sway bars, 383magnum, no rust, headlight hide aways, black but interior is light :( and needs tlc. They want $19k...

I never seen charger in real life, so i can only see them in pictures and looks like 71 is similar to 69...

Any advices, pointers, flaming, bring it...

P.s. Im military, stationed in germany so i would be bringing the car over here.

A few things that come to mind right away. I assume you are US stationed in Germany and are trying to buy in the US.

First since it's the end of the season here that is both good and bad, good because there are less buyers and sellers are more negotiable if they don't want to pay for storage/ins for another 6 months. However, typically the market is thinner.

Since you have a smaller budget you are going to have to be more patient. I personally looked for close to 3yrs and did keep within my budget picking up what I wanted.

Being off shore you probably want to target areas of the US that you have contacts in so that you can get a personal inspection by someone you trust before you buy the car.

I suspect shipping to Europe is going to diminish you kitty?

Use and abuse Internet resources. I used www.autotempest.com, http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=B, and this site primarily. Go to the For Sale board of this site and in the upper right hand corner click on the notify button. It will send you an email when a new ad is posted. Also made use of http://www.cars-on-line.com/mopar.html but it's a bit harder to search. I would devote time each day to checking each one of these sites. After you get through all the ads once links for new stuff show up as unread and it makes it easier.

After a few weeks or a month of looking you will get a good idea of where the market sits and you will have a good idea of what is junk and what is decent.

Make a lot of phone calls when you find a car you are interested in.

You will be too late to the party several times. Don't loose hope, it will work out. I know.  :2thumbs:

Lastly, use the resources of this site to help. Ask questions and post pics of cars. Ask for help if you need it. Lots of good people here.  :yesnod:

Good Luck.

Thanks! I shipped my z06 back in july, so shouldnt be a big deal. I am not looking for big project, minor things are not of issue, but i want 80% complete car. So is it possible to get gen 2 for around 15?

Your definition of minor and mine might differ. Yes I think you could find a non numbers 2nd Gen for 15 in decent shape but it's going to take a while to find. Do you have to have a BB in it right away or can you live with a 318? It's all about what you can live with and what you can't.

Start listing out the things you MUST have, those that you would like to have, and those you can live without. Sort the must and like to haves by priority and start shopping. You may find that one of your must haves really limits your market and then you will need to readjust your expectations.

Oh, and always keep any pictures you are sent while you are looking. They make great reference material for the next car you look at.  :yesnod:
