I just replaced the manifold gasket on my 440 and when I had the pushrods exposed...I noticed that a LOT had considerable play in them.  What is the correct lash for the valves? Are intake and exhaust different?  The cam is .525 list with 294 duration.  I have the 90 degree adjustment chart...just need the proper settings.  Thanks.

You would be safe with .020 lash as a starting point with just about any solid flat tappet, inmo  ;)

I've been told that setting lash too tight is far worse than setting it too loose. If the lash is tight, the valves simply don't fully seat. Too loose? There will be slack in the valvetrain possibly leading to bent pushrods, early lifter and/or cam lobe wear and rocker arm failure.
I adjusted my lash cold. On aluminum heads, you add .006 to the "hot" number because the heads expand/grow as the engine warms up to operating temperature.
