tail light housing color - trunk side?

Just got another set of complete tail light assemblies for our GTX and noticed that the back side of the housing that is facing inside the trunk was painted black but had a gold dye color to the pot metal.  Not having the GTX readily available to look at (at Dads house), I would like to get these cleaned up prior to bringing them over to his house.  Were they painted black originally or were they just the natural gold dyed color (similar to the Holley carb housing)?  My gut feeling is that they were the natural gold dyed color.  Oops, forgot to mention it is for a 69 GTX convertible.

I think you may be right.  Google 69 GTX tail light housing and click images.  Several gold ones in there make me believe it's stock.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Gold.
I have a set of '68 Coronet lamps with the same goldish color. But these look plated, like that gold zinc stuff or whatever it's called.
Funny, Charger housings were just left as cast pot metal.

Thanks.  Thats what I thought they were as the paint seemed to be flaking off way too easily.  I paint stripped them and the gold dye (similar to the gold dye used on Holley carbs) is in almost perfect condition.  I stripped the paint off of the recessed area inside and the area where the chrome paint was for the "reflector" of the bulb and repainted them and they came out perfect.  Now I can put them into the GTX and still have it on the road for dad while I get the original ones restored also.
