Regarding fender tags; is there any truth to what I thought I read years ago... that if they blew an engine during the assembly process at the auto plant that they stamped the fender tag by punching a dimple on the tag?

I don't think there is any truth to that one.

No. What purpose would that serve? If they blew the first engine and replaced it, why would it matter and why would it be indicated on the tag? There are plants that did use the fender tag for inspection documentation in one way or another. So some tags will have stamps and some won't.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Never heard of such a thing, as others have said.

Just can't imagine a reason for the extra work. Wouldn't make sense.

And yes all the St. Louis tags (at least in '68) have stamps/punches/dimples. Nothing to do with engines, good or bad.
