We have a "exotic feline rescue center" about 15 miles from my house and they have em' all Lions, Panthers, Cougars, Bobcats, Tigers. Anyway a few years ago people around the area started talking that they had seen a "cougar" in their yard or crossing the road. The rescue center would never admit that any ever escaped but 2 years ago during deer season a bow hunter in a tree stand (teacher at the high school) took a pic with his cell phone of a friggin' cougar below his tree stand  :o I would have shot it. But from what I have been told there are more "mountain lions" migrating north into our area anyway. idk but I sure would not want a encounter with anything like that.

The mountain lions are starting to come into Kansas here. Some of my railroad workers saw one in town by our tracks just a few weeks ago in the morning.  My grandma lives in Des Moines and lives in the middle of town. She was about to go for her morning walk with her little dog and the dog flipped out and would not go outside. She had never seen the dog act that way. She decided to stay home and not go for her walk with the dog. A few minutes later a half a block away by the grade school the cops were everywhere and they had shot a mountain lion.

The Game Warden just left and he said it was a Coon Dog. I used to coon hunt when I was younger and never have I seen a dog leave tracks that big, but he swears that's what it is.

I would keep an eye on things. Theres been many sitings in Kansas here and the Fish & Game says no that's not correct and then a few weeks later someone gets a picture of something big and nasty to prove them wrong.

That has already crossed my mind... I'm seriously considering one of those infrared wildlife cameras like Bob T suggested. They are not that expensive.
