That picture is within the last couple of years,it looks like a (soft) wall behind it. A REAL race car and a real DRIVER.It doesn't get much better.

I nabbed that pic file in 2003 during Winston's "Farewell Tour" for NASCAR, I think it was posted on D-C.com before too.  We commented at the time how strange it was to see Richard behind the wheel of a Daytona, when he never drove one in competition.

It"dd have to be one of us to notice that.I worked with a guy who thought Dale senior was first generation NASCAR.   Hemigeno you must have had a killer camera lens to bag that picture and not have people standing up in front of you.

It is the Marcis car, but originally was #30.    Jim Vandiver would have run #31.   

The Marcis car is a '68 Nichels chassis, originally owned by AJ King, with Pete Hamilton as the driver, running #1.    In 1969,  Marcis had backing from Milt Lunda, a Wisconsin general contractor, and bought the Charger.    Marcis had two Chargers, ultimately running this one as a Daytona and the other as a short track car.  Marcis raced the car in Grand National through 1972, and thereafter raced as a 70 Charger in NASCAR Late Model Sportman, now the Busch series.   It was wrecked at Daytona in the mid 1970s.  The car was sold to Don Danielewicz in Milwaukee in 1978 and was restored to Marcis Daytona trim by Terry Nichels, son of Ray.  It has the Nichels fabricated air intake box on the drivers door, and some newer features like a dry break fuel fill, but the chassis is real. 

Danielewicz sold the car to an enthusiast in Omaha in 1980, who owned it for several years.  And from there it has made its way down the slippery slope of the Petty paint job and now Winston.   I think its a shame it's kind of been hoe'd out as an advertising vehicle.

Looks better in the #30 paint scheme to me. would be a better thing if it was still done up that way.

at least it is a known car, and people know how it should be, and when it gets changed there will be no way to argue on what car it really was.
