Keep Blowing Fuses

I have a circuit that blows the fuse as soon as I put it in.  This line has my CLOCK (Tic Toc Tach) and the Cigarette Lighter, does anyone know what else is in that circuit?   Everything else seems to work.  Looked at the wiring diagram on this site, but cannot tell.  Any idea?  Thanks.  Oh, this is for a Daytona, 440.

I don't know what else is on that circuit, but did you check the cigarette lighter?  They do get stuck sometimes, or things do fall in there if the lighter element isn't in there. :scratchchin:

I think there can only be two places to look here.  Fuse box or light switch.  First make sure everything on the fuse box is isolated.  Best to remove it and inspect it.  A red wire goes from the cigarette lighter to the fuse box.  A pink wire tees off and goes to the light switch, from there a grey wire continues to the clock/tach.  My money is on the light switch.  Take it out and test continuity, you nay have a bit of damage there.

Which light switch?  My interiors are OK, headlights are OK, dash is OK.  Am I missing something?  I will check the fusebox, looked good in front, will have to check the back. Thanks.

The lighter is not in the receptacle, having it lying in the ash tray.  Will check to see if anyting fell into the well, that could cause a problem, thanks.

Sorry, headlight switch.  The lights can operate fine but the pink and/or grey wire may have a short.  Worth checking out but yes please check the fuse box and the actual wires first so you don't pull the instrument cluster for nothing.  I would definitely make sure nobody spliced into the cigarette lighter wire to add a stereo or something.  That's where usually the problems start.  Now, does the clock work?  If so, you can forget about the grey wire and just check pink and red.

NO, clock does NOT work, that is how I knew something was wrong, so checked the fuses and found a blown one, replaced and same thing, did it again, still blows.   No idea what could have happened, a few days ago it worked and I have not done any type of electrical work on the car.   I will check those wires after I check the backside of the fuse box.

dunno exactly what is related to that fuse, but, why not to check on back of cigar lighter for melted insulator ?

Does the dome light work? If not check to make sure you have the correct bulb in it.

Just disconnect the things on that circut one at a time. You have a dead short, something is grounding out. The fuse location should be marked to what is on the circut or check shop manual. Look for bare wires, may also find burn marks somewhere.

:iagree: Start with the red wire on the cigarette lighter first. The internal clip can be bent and touching the sides. :Twocents:
