Mecum auction estimates

I'm considering going to the Mecum auction in Indy next month.  On the website, they list auction estimates for many of the cars.  Has anyone gone to an auction?  Are these estimates usually fairly accurate?  Some of them seem very high to me, but maybe some of these really well restored cars often really go for that?

Just curious how accurate you have found pre-auction estimates.

No input on these auctions?  I figured some here would have attended these before.

It depends on how many actual buyers for that particular car are in the room when the car goes across the block.    Sometimes cars exceed the auction estimate by a lot.   Sometime they do not.

Yeah I watched that too - I'm assuming it was the green one?   It seemed that all the cars were going for far under what I'd consider reasonable value.

did it show the plaque I mounted on the fire wall saying 1973 Dodge Charger Super Bee tribute (the WannaBee)?  I used that to cover a hole in the firewall.

Market still going down....   :shruggy:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

These classics are not getting any easier to find, people are just running out of extra money to buy and play with toys with... Spending is a lot tighter now a days, does not make your Mopar less valuble or worth less, you just sell it to another moper guy willing to pay up.  Yea that green bee clone was a good looking car, I think you did ok considering it was a 1973.  I think the current market is a good reality check for all those owners that were thinking BARRET JACKSON prices for the last 6 years... Rich idiots will always be around with more money then car knowlege (great way to sell off those 318 clone cars) but it you have a real HP Mopar, that came out of the factory kicking ass, then its better than money in the bank... :Twocents:

And to answer your question, the pre auction estiments are what BJ think and feels the car should sell around, as thats also usually what they tell the buyer, but those are all just guess numbers, usually based on similar cars of past auctions.  It really just comes down to whos in the crowd, and what they are willing to spend to make that car end up in thier garage.  It helps if you have mulitple people interested of courese, get a bidding war going.  I would not put too much trust in thier pre-est. numbers... I have seen stuff sell both over and underpriced, it just depends whos in the crowd that day.   :Twocents:
