Can I get some decode help for this option -- ??

This is a 69 Charger SE. These numbers are from my broadcast sheet.

R22 and R31 (and it has a "1" in the box below the R31). I read it as R22=AM//8/track and R31=rear speaker-single. Anyone else agree?

I do not have any other "R" codes on the fender tag or broadcast sheet. My decoder has (3) different R31 options based on whether or not they also have R11 pr R85. My car has neither of those.

Interesting note, the fender tag has the R22 but NOT the R31 and the broadcast sheet lists both. The VINs match between the two. Any thoughts?

Thanks all!

I believe the rear speaker was included with R22, so it wouldnt be on the fender tag. Whats R85?

R 11 is for music master radio,  not sure if that helps

Rear speaker (R31) would not be listed on the fender tag.  Generally, Chrysler only listed the radio code and not the rear speaker(s) code on the fender tag.  R22 is the correct code for AM radip w/ 8-track stereo tape.  R31 was not included with the R22 option.

I've always wondered why in 1969 B-bodies Chrysler only offered a single rear speaker with the stereo sound system and then made it an option.  Did anyone really not want sound from the back if they ordered the stereo?

So if I read all the posts correctly it looks like I should have an AM/8track w/stero (R22) and then a single rear speaker (R31)???

The R85 comment is on my decoder list for the other R31 code but I too dont see anywhere what an R85 is.

Thanks all for the fast reply!

Just 6T9 CHGR

There are 4 types of radio codes

R11.....Music Master AM
R13... Astrophonic AM (5.5 watt)
R21... Solid-State AM/FM
R22.....Stereo Tape w/Radio AM

Mike the R31 rear speaker was optional with all radios.   The R22 8-track did get you a 3 speaker dash though.....

Getting the AM 8-track did not automatically get you the rear seat speaker.

There is no R85 code.   The only other R code on the broadcast sheet would be R45 for oversized manual antenna (which I have never seen checked off on a Charger broadcast sheet)

My guess is that R85 is a misprint for R35 which is the AM-FM stereo radio.  R35 was not available on Chargers, but was available on C-bodies in 1969.

Thanks guys, I got my decoder from the web years ago and I bet that R85 is a typo.

Now that I found the rear speaker harness for under the dash I am ready to get this thing finished and buttoned up.

Thanks all!
