Trunk Mats.. So What Style and?..

The Jack thread got me to thinking... about trunks..

I recently saw a cardboard dress up for third gens.. what's the deal with those?.. were they avail. for 1st and 2nds too?..
I'm thinking of cleaning up my trunk and i'm looking for examples,.. anyone paint their's,.. inside?..
oh, and hows your wiring routed?..

Shakey

The trunk of the 2nd gen's was painted body colour and had a vinyl mat - that's it.  No cardboard dress up as there was nothing to dress up.  The spare tire mounted towards the front of the trunk.

A few different versions of the mat were avilable - grey plaid, tan plaid houndstooth, Year One has them and there is no way of telling what came with the car originally.

On some cars, (SE's I think) there was a plastic cover for the t-lights.  It prevented items from banging into the t-lamp housings.  There are reproductions available for $175.00 USD out of TN.  Dodge should have made something to protect the passenger side QTR as a case of beer could put a helluva wave in your quarter panel after a hard left turn!

i think the plastic cover for the t-lights was standard on all second gens,.. eh?..  :P

69's and 70's.  68's didn't have the protector.

Like Shakey stated trunk is painted body color.

68-69 generally had gray plaid mats where the 70's had the gray herringbone style.
Some had tan plaid.   Basically it what was available at the time.

I had the gray plaid and it got messed up so this time around I opted for the herringbone style.  I just like the way it looked better.

Mine came with tan plaid originally, mat was messed up so I replaced it with a grey plaid (more blue looking and looks better w/ the green car).  The grey is darker and shows less dirt.  I bought a spare tire cover out of the same material from Legendary.
Over?! its not over until we say it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!...Hell no! and its not over now!..(Germans? Pearl Harbor?...shut up, he's on a roll)

More of the same:  My was painted body color (T3, which as you well-know RULES) plus a tan plaid rubber mat.  Because of scuffs and stains, I tossed the original mat and soon wished I hadn't.  It took me forver to find another one in rubber.   Vinyl ones are plentiful but rubber, especially in tan plaid, was tough to find.  It looks much better to me.

To dress up my trunk, I run a 5th raylle wheel with center cap.  When I had the hubcaps on the car, I ran an extra hubcap on the spare.  Just looked better and more "finished".

Oh, plus the Dukes horn...

After the floor was painted flat black, I cut down the trunk carpeting from my old New Yorker to fit. My high-tech 87 Daytona tail lamp harness is routed underneath, on the far left hand side of the car. Inside the quarters were painted with Formby's Salt and Pepper
granite-look paint. The end result was beautiful. I'll try to get some good pics of it, soon. I have yet to make a battery tray and clamp to relocate the battery there. I also salvaged the power trunk release from my New Yorker, and turned it upside down, and bolted it into the Charger. After I get the package tray swapped out, the rear defroster from the New Yorker will also reside in the trunk.

you got wing braces Kenny?.. need I ask.. "WHY?"..
now I'm scared..  ;D
what i'd like to do is run a flex line from the gas filler to the tank in a way that takes up alot less room... im gonna have to think about that since the charger tank wouldn't seem to accomadate this mod easliy...
I'd also like to replace the particle board between the rear seat and the trunk with a heavy wood panel and have some hefty speakers hidden there, prolly the amp mounted on it as well..
thanks for the info and pics...
Chris your trunk is the best lookin one I've ever seen!

Kenny,
Your set is the first set of braces that I've seen installed. They look kind of good if I do say so myself. I noticed in the pics that Mike had of his clone on e-bay a while back that the set that I sent him were in the trunk, but still in the box. I'm nowhere near close enough to install mine. I haven't even opened all of the boxes of wing parts yet. If you know of anyone that wants to buy my extra set of daytona wings, I'll take what I have in them. I paid Dane $650 plus around $85 shipping. My wife has decided that she wants a superbird clone instead so I'm selling her set of wings. That's a little more than if someone bought them from Dane, but I don't think Danes going to have more sets made for a while.

If I had any chance of scoring that cash, I'd scoop that wing from you!  Strat- Don't worry, I have no intentions of mounting a wing on my car... yet. As you are aware, I want a collection of all the different 2nd gen body pieces to be able to mix and match at my whimsy, driving the "Flavor of the Week". This would make everyone in town think I had an entire fleet of similarly painted, and equipped Chargers. I just think that would be hilarious.
