An econobox is rapidly becoming a survival necessity ($6 dollar gas in CA? yikes!).  At least a fun one helps a bit. The trick is to combine fun+safe+dependable, which is how I ended up with a Civic.

ive been wanting a srt4 neon for quite a while myself. i gotta do things on the cheap unfortunatly .

i got a commuter car in dec 2010. i paid 750 it had 143k on it. i drove it 44k miles. it got 40mpg too the head cracked about a month ago unfortunatly. im gonna fix it but im just too busy now to mess with it. so i bought the same car just 1 year newer and with 96k miles  for 1250. only really crappy thing is no ac or power steering   makes alot more room under the hood though.  if you dont mind a stripped down cart their pretty reliable cars and really cheap to fix.

first one was a 96 saturn sl1 5 speed
current one    97 saturn sl 5 speed
