Typical lifespan for electronic regulators

What is the average age of the elctronic regulators before they go away?  Decades?  Solid state stuff should be a long time right?

Well Voyager's has 35 years and 11 billion miles on it......and it's 8track is still working to boot! I'd say darn near forever if not attacked by other malfunctioning components or corrosion of some sort.

think i remember , hearing  or reading  !  bad grounding  kills them  or shortens their  life     but don't quote me on that

my 89 Cummins ,last year for the electronic reg , ate 1 / year , the seal would open up & water would get into it sorting it internally forcing it to full charge

I never have changed because gone. One "electrician tech" who I thought he knew what he made, replaced one because the "voltage gauge" was reading up and down sometimes... go figure! ITS AN AMMETER!!! ( after that was when I decided to learn about my car electricity, not anymore "techs" )... just replaced one to change the aftermarket chromed piece for the MP one.
