Msd distributor

Hi guys,I put a new msd distibutor in a mild 340.I put it in with out making any adjustments,now I get a backfire at around 2700 rpm.reading the instructions is kinda confusing,any ideas on the spring rate for the advance curve( what color)?any advise would be great thanks.

Not being familiar enough with the MSD one, I'm assuming they must put some kind of middle of the road curve in it to ballpark it for a variety of applications?  Have you put a timing light on the car and know what the existing advance specs are?

I usually limit the curve to around 20* with the buttons so you can run 16 * at idle & 36 total , the spring rate can be mid range to start & lighter as long as it doesn't cause pinging under load at lower rpm
