how do I separate the motor from the transmission while pulling the motor out

Finn

Remove the flex plate bolts one at a time by spinning the motor over with a breaker bar. Then support the transmission from the bottom using a trans-jack or something similar.
Lastly, unbolt the the bell housing from the engine and you should be able to pull it.

Or did I misunderstand and you're asking how to remove the trans after you already started pulling the motor out of the engine bay? :shruggy:

I'm pulling a motor from the engine bay. I have all the bolts out from the bell casing. do I just need to separate the bell housing from the back of the motor

Finn

Did you remove the flex plate cover on the bottom of the transmission to unbolt the bolts going into the torque convertor?
