ok I have my engine in to a custom engine guy, who works mainly on race engines but is rebuilding my engine as a high performance street engine.  We decided on the comp cams nostalgia 280h cam which has .474/.474 lift and a duration of 233/240 at 106 degree centerline.  I will also be adding a windage tray, forged pistons, and headers.  I allready have a single plane intake and a 600-650cfm edelbrock carb.  I also am running 3.23 gears and a 2800rpm stall.  What do you think...any problem areas?  I know the carb maybe a little small but he advised me to break in the engine on this carb, and then upgrade to a bigger carb if I wanted.  I was thinking a 750cfm.

you will want more rear end gear than the 3.23s with that cam, probably like a 3.91-that is a lot of cam for a 383,you will probably end up winding it up quite a bit to make use of the power band,i would go slightly smaller, just my 2 cents

sounds like your engine guy knows what hes doing, if you want more performance, more gear would help.  3.55s might be a real nice compromise.

you will need a stall converter as well
I would recommend a 750 Holley, Demon or Proform carb
