Know of a complete 70 4 speed charger, has no missing parts. Bad part is, is that both rear frame rails from axle back will need replacing-along of course a trunk pan. Would you guys even touch a charger needing rail work? Only considering it because it's a 4 speed and very complete car. Could probably get it
for less than 7-8k.

Pictures would help to see how bad the rails are.  If it is only the frame rails and trunk floor - might not be too bad of a deal for 7-8k.  However, if the frame rails and trunk are that bad, there has to be more rust/rot in the car than just that location.

I hear ya. I've learned over the years, that the worst rust in a car, is the stuff that isn't obvious to the eye.

If the price is right I would buy it. Its just rust. They make most of the replacement parts

Swapping subframe rails is very common in the hobby these days.  So common that the rails for it have been reproduced.

I'm not commenting on the economics of it, just saying what goes on.  If you want 100% sensible economics with these cars then don't mess with them.  If you want 75% sensible economics then buy one already finished.  Once you break out the tools it becomes a surefire money pit.

I had to change all 4 on my 68.  Actually, 3 were bad, and decided to due to the 4th.  BUT, only 1 I new looked bad.  Once the bottom of the rail was cut off, found lot's of surprises.  These thing rust from the inside out.

AMD's are spot on made even have the original weld areas.  :2thumbs:

If it's priced right, I would jump on it.

With your own labor figured in, those rails will set you back maybe what? $1500? If it needs the rest, dutchmen, quarters, valence.. might just be worth the piece of mind for all new metal anyway... Do your frame connectors right away too. And there goes 6 months and of your life - vola'. Talk him down, 6500.

Your better off getting a complete car and replacing the rails, I pretty much had to replace the whold back end on my 69 the driver rear rail was shot and I am sectioning it, They look pretty good from the outside until you get into them!! The rear window area / dutchman panel area is especially gets nasty when you take it apart, all that rust is hidden good.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I`m going through that with my Charger trying to decide on fixing it or selling it....
