NGK plug help

Can anyone help me with this?  NGK's website isn't the best to use to figure this out unfortunately.  My performance shop recommended I use NGK V-Power plugs in heat range 6 for my setup but when I look on NGK or Summit's site, they only show plugs in HR4 and HR5 for a 440.  Does anyone have a part number for a heat range 6 plug and which length/reach to use?  I see them in .375 and .750 for 440's according to Summit.

Do you have a problem with your plugs? Personally I can't see the value in V shaped/split fire electrodes, for the cost you might as well side gap standard plugs. BCP6ES is what I use an my 10.2:1 eddy headed 440.

I have XR5's in there now. I'm looking for the heat range 6 version of that plug.

This is a non- projected tip plug in a "6" range.  It's not V-power but I ran this in a 10-1 iron headed motor with no issues.  From my experience this will be one of your only options.

My shop sent me over this part # last night.

I asked him what about my motor made him recommend this plug in heat range 6 over the XR5 and he said the difference is largely inconsequential but mostly based on good experiences he has had with HR6 plugs, and especially based on how he has my distributor advance setup.  I'm going to order a set and swap them in to see how they work out.  I'll save the XR5's for backup spares since they're relatively new.  I'll also post pics of them when I do the swap.

No resistor on that plug, FYI.  Not a big deal, but you could be looking at a little radio interference.....if you care.

Dan, the 6 series plug might end up being too cold (heat range) for your combo. If they start to foul and the engine loads up you'll know why.  ;)

I prefer a warmer plug in a street driven application that sees lots of low speed operation/idleing. Keeps the plugs cleaner...longer. From my experience the XR5 is the "right" heat range with iron heads & pump gas in a street/strip application.

The R-5670 is a race plug....not a street plug. That doesn't mean you can't use them on the street but i never do and have never had any issues using a non-race NGK plug....even while racing.  :icon_smile_big:

Let us know how it works out  :yesnod:

I will, thanks all for your comments.  I ordered the plugs and can always put the XR5's back in.  I spoke with Mike (my speed shop) and he said that the resistor/interference thing makes sense but he's never seen it actually cause an issue or received any complaints from customers.  We'll see.  He says he has a lot of good experience with the 5670 across his cars and customer's cars.

For detecting fouling, I assume that means the electrode of the plugs will be black and covered in soot?  A clean/proper matched plug electrode will look tan in color, correct?  One question, everyone says iron heads with pump gas.  Does that mean if I ever change to aluminum heads the plug heat range would then change?

Yes, the BCP6ES is the correct for an aluminum head pump gas build.

Heres a good article for reading plugs

Is it acceptable to use:  BCPR6ES With the eddy heads?
I think the R stands for resistor??
Does it make a difference??
