I'm looking for a fun daily driver so I can park my 3/4ton Diesel 4x4 truck. I found a 2003 Mustang GT 4.6L 5 speed manual with 38k original miles. Owned by adult and almost all stock. What are some things to look for? It is dark red with tan leather, and looks almost brand new probably because it only has 38k.

What are some things to look for? Decent gas mileage?

I want a Hemi orange 5.7 Challenger R/T but cannot afford it right now after just purchasing my first home so this car is my next best choice

Had a 98' GT automatic. Never had any prob's other than if you want little better performance swap rearend gears, K&N a/f and a decent catback exhaust. Got 18 mpg sometimes better when I kept my foot out of it.
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Only mods I'm planning on doing are 3.73 gears, SCT programmer, K&N cold air, and a pair of Flowmaster Super 10 mufflers with 3.5" chrome tips

Had an 01 auto for a few years....the mods you have planned should work well. I would get a different brand muffler though like a DynoMax ultraflow.

The gearing on modern Mustangs (and most sports cars) is already so low that I wouldn't touch it.  Lowering it might improve the dragstrip numbers but it won't improve the driving experience any.  1st gear is virtually useless in regular traffic. Leaving from a stoplight, you might roll 20 feet before shifting to second.

Tell me about it! My BMW with 3.73's and a 3.83 first gear ratio means im shifting at like 12mph into second

Theres a guy selling a 04 GT up the block from me, wants about 11k the car has 12,000 miles on it!! Mint, torque thrust rims, hurst shifter...looks like it rolled out of the show room. The cars never seen rain.

myk

I've still got my '98 GT A4; not the years you're thinking about but close enough.  For a 90's car whose basic suspension and underpinnings were unchanged from the 70's it's not a bad car.  My car looks and runs like it did from the dealership but maybe that has to do more with me.  I love Mustangs, especially mine, but honestly if I were you I'd consider looking at rival Camaro's and Firebirds, specifically the '98 to '02 years, especially if you're looking for a "fun" driver.  The identical era Mustangs are so down on power that IMO it isn't fun to roll out on to the streets knowing that a bone stock rival would completely blow your doors off even if your car is 'modded; forget it if the LS1 has basic bolt-ons as you don't stand a chance.  Hell, even a Nissan Maxima could cause you a lot of grief.

But, if you're like me and just want to use the Mustang as a nice 'DD the car will do you proud.  Unlike its faster rivals of the time fit, finish and build quality both inside and out are superior-again I know because I have owned both for years.  The Mustang is easy to live with and handles rather well, just don't expect to win any drag races...

GOTWING

I bought a 99 gt new, chrome yellow 5spd. 13:79et dead stock, very dependable, went to 168,000 miles before selling.I put 3.73 gears, under drive pullys,K&N cold air kit, bigger BBK throttle body,JBA headers, off road X-pipe,flow master 2 chambers,Pauls high performance custom burned chip, sub frame connectors,Nitto drag radials, best et 13:11 @ 102mph.you will want a 99 and up, 96 to 98 4.6 GT's are piss slow, a friend of mine had a stock automatic 98 GT and it ran 15:60et. :eek2: :smilielol: LOL

I also owned a 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 5spd. 3.08 rear, dead stock it ran a 14:74et. I put 3.73's, off road h-pipe,w/ dynomax, bumped the timing,K&N drop in filter, the car dropped the best bang for the buck to 13:89 @ 98mph. The gears were used for $50 the h-pipe was $99.00 , they are fun little cars with lots of potential.

Hadda 1985 Mustang GT. Ran a best of 6.50's 8th mile.
Moved up to a 1990 LX coupe. Ran a best of 5.94 8th mile.

Then, moved up to a 1993 LX hatchback. Has a blast with that car. After recieving -13 points on my record(-12, and you are on suspension), I finally decided to try and leave that damn thing alone and just drive it.

Never OWNED an SN95 Platform car, but had ALOT friends that did. Good cars, but heavier than previous bodys.

I had a 98 Cobra back in 2005 and man that thing was a monster of course it had a 4.6 DOHC and thank God I sold it before it broke because those engines are not easy nor cheap to work on, I had a 94 Cobra before that and it was a 5.0 that was built to the hilt, subframe connectors, intake, tb, headers,x-pipe, lower rear arms, bigger sway bars, man the more I think about it the more I would like to have the car back, I would take a Ford over a Chevy any day.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

If your 1/8th mile numbers are accurate, you forgot to add that the car was far from a stock car.Stock mustangs should see somewhere in the 9 second 1/8th mile.

Just 6T9 CHGR

I had a '99 GT convertible with the Limited Edition package.  It was 1 of 283 built in Performance Red & a 5 speed.  Fun car to drive.  Only had it for a short while.....a friend made me an offer I couldnt refuse ;)

All I did was put a Magnaflow cat-back on it & it was good to go.

Made it into the "T" building @ the Ford Nats in Carlisle with it.  :2thumbs:

Update: found a green 2001 Bullit edition with 16,000 original miles, going to call on it in the morning. I'd rather have the Bullit edition it would be pretty cool since my Charger is a black on black '68 like in the movie

I've always been a fan of Mustangs. I own 3 Fox body's....... two 1990 LX hatchback 5.0L 5spds and a 1989 LX hatchback 2.3 (parts car). I truly enjoy my 5.0Ls. They are such a blast and cheap to mod!!! I've made lots of money selling parts for the 1999-2004s, still got a bunch of stuff left. If you buy one and you need something let me know. I'd love to own a 2003-2004 Cobra!

I owned an 01 6cyl. auto and then this 04 GT stickcar.
Loved it but the trans was clunky from 1st to 2nd on a slow shift.
My car was mint not an old HOE like most so really checkout the shifting of any you look at.
I bought mine with 8600 miles on it and had it for a 1 1/2.
A Hurst shifter tightened up the shift patten alot.

At 6'6" and previously 240, I did not fit in those... My '08 seems to have enough room though...
