Hello everyone I'm lookin into getting a new air compresser to do the work on my 68 charger.I went to lows, menards, and farm&fleet to look and would a 60 gallon air conpresser be good enough to do all the work I would need it for.sanding air tools, painting if need be.oh yea it also has a 4h motor.not a larg budget but the best bang for the buck!thx!

elitecustombody

It will be struggling.Find the best one you can afford. Check craigslist and ebay in your area.I'd rather buy a used quality compressor than brand new junk

+1
You can find find high quality 3 phase compressors on Craigslist really cheap all the time.
Converting to single phase costs a few hundred but you would have a heavy duty unit that will last forever for under 800 bucks.
Thats what I did, my Curtis makes more air than I can use and runs really quiet.

tan top

find one with at least minim of 13cfm  ,  that will work for most top coat guns also , but  wont for an air fed at the same time , they consume about 9cfm on their own  from memory
Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

Yes it will work.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy a red one. Wait until one comes along on Craigslist. Try allofcraigs.com or something, but do not buy one from the Depot or Lowes.

Not having one is holding me back from working on it,can't move foreward.also bought a large sand blasting cabinet and a pot to do all the suspension parts and so forth.I guess I can wait a little longerthx for all the replys

1BAD68

Sandblasting cabinet?
That changes things a bit. You're going to need a bigger compressor.

elitecustombody

Yep, if you're going to be blasting, you will need a real compressor, not a cheap cheater compressor. Check craiggers.com and jaxed.com as well  :Twocents:

Ya, save the money and get a good 2 stage compressor. Ive heard the Kobalts and Campbell Hausfields run really hot, and harbor freight, well, its harbor freight. My friend has had a 80gal Husky for about 8 years but its starting to take a dump. If you can find a Champion, Quincy, Bel-air, Ingersol Rand etc.. You'll never have to get another compressor. Id rather spend $1800 now and spend the time setting it up than to spend $800 twice in 8 years.

Wait until you find out you need all the extras too.. The filters, air dryers, plumbing into the booth, etc, etc...  :-\

Might be able to get it for 300.00

Bulldog69RT

I think youll be happy with that! If one day you ever want more tank, just add a secondary tank. too easy. That motor is the biggest you are going to be able to run on your homes 220v 1phase anyways.

Im using a 60 gal 220v comp from harbor freight. its 13.7 cfm at 90psi. i can do anything with it and have done everything with it. painted a car and blasted some rims and headers with it which would be the most taxing without worry. and its cheap to boot plus you can get discounts.
