Hi guys,

Been a while since I posted anything about my rebuild so ....... it is off the rotisserie and engine/tranny/rearend is back in the car. Painted with R6 acrylic enamel and slowly getting put back together. Here are a couple of quick pics.

Thanks ..... no, the fan coupling was the original fan the motor came with.  We cleaned and painted around the numbers to leave them as the factory left it.  My fan, as far as I know, is still in great shape and should be just fine.

Very nice!  Keep those pics coming.

Love the R6, very classy.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Just a couple of more quick pics,

Both the color and the engine are clear wins. Keep the good work.

Thanks Tan Top and others,

It is a pretty tight fit for the steering coupler but it is more the angle of the camera shot as the only thing down there that was "changed" was the use  of TTi headers now instead of the original cast iron manifolds. I still have the originals in a box in my garage.

Everything should go back just fine as the original steering box was rebuilt and used for the rebuild. The new headers do not look to be a problem in person.

The color , R6 Red , is really nice in person and looks great! When we are finished with the final polish , it should look like a basecoat/clearcoat paint job. People have mistaken his other cars for that although he has them in acrylic enamel also.

Wowee, that is sweet!  :drool5:

FYI, good thing you painted around the numbers on the clutch. The "070" clutches are very hard to come by. Looks like yours is in terrific shape!

Thanks bill440rt,

I am going to use as many original parts on it as I can get away with. Some things naturally just have to be replaced.

The engine has been done for a while now and the shop dynoed it at 588hp and climbing at 6500rpm but I am sure it was just about all done. It should run pretty well.  Engine is .0030 over w/custom JE 11 to 1 pistons, Comp Cams Hyd roller and complete new rocker assembly , SS valves and hardened seats with a mild port job. You can see the billet MSD distributor and MSD wires but it will also have a MSD digital 6 box hidden somewhere. Still , not bad for a 431.5 C.I. motor. By the way , the motor is definitely numbers matching to the car.

Awesome job! Can't beat the look of a HEMI and by the sound of it.....performance  :2thumbs:

Thanks friend,

I forgot to add to the list on the motor. It also has Manley SS valves and Manley H-beam rods with the factory crank as it looked to be in great shape. Just a clean-up pass on the crank was needed. It should be pretty much a bulletproof lower end as this car will only get driven on nice days and a few car shows and I do not intend to race it. I just wanted a drive-it and forget-it motor, thus the hyd. roller cam and stout lower end. Tranny (727 auto) and rearend (3.23 suregrip) has already been rebuilt and installed also.

My brother-in-law is an electronics wiz (works for Lockheed-Martin in Fort Worth) and when he was down here (No. Houston area) he picked up my original AM/8-Track radio to look at as it was not working. He said he bypassed the power switch, checking out the radio, and the radio worked and worked for hours! It is in pretty good shape for an original and even has the dark sleeve on the track-change button still there and looking good. I think I will just put some careful elbow-grease on it and call it even after my BIL changes the power switch! Who listens to radio anyway with TTi headers and a complete 3" x-pipe exhaust system ?   Ha Ha !!

I was just talking to my buddy about the wheels for the car. I think I will get some of the new Ansen slots in 15x8 rear and 15x7 front for it to drive most of the time and I will buy some redline reproduction tires (F70-15) for it for shows as it came with those and the deluxe 15" wheelcovers. I have all 5 original wheels for the Charger and a box of NOS wheelcovers for it. It actually looks nice with both !

Lucked out again!!
