I was changing the oil on the Charger today, found a surprise...   :flame:  Don't know why I never noticed this before.  Seems my passneger side bolts aren't tight, and for some reason there is an extra washer in there.  I tried taking a wrench to it, but it's stuck.  Currently treating it with some PB Blaster.

The first pic is the front driver's side, 2nd and 3rd are front and rear passenger bolts.  Man, what the hell!  :brickwall:

After all these years, who knows but the up side is you found them. Once tight you'll have peace of mind and might be less body squeaks.

Is it common to have those extra washers?  Seems odd that they are only on the passenger side.

No they shouldn't be there. They are surplus.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

The threads probably got galled and the bolt wont go in any further because of it so someone likely thought they would space it out to get it tigh, but it dont look like they succeded. Try to get a new set, heat up the old ones and change them out one at a time. You may need to tap out or chase the threads to do so.

Yep.

Take your time...youll have a headache on your hands if you snap the bolt and even more if the nut inside the frame gets loose.

Hemidog

A good tip from Ehrenberg is to drill a small hole in the frame, and soak the bolt from the top with WD40, ect...

:iagree:

Either the above happened, or this happened..

Some dumbass was reinstalling them in a hurry and crossthreaded the bolt and that's as tight as it got even with all those washers.

I've had a couple treatments of PB Blaster on it, and it won't budge loose or tight. I was afraid of breaking it or pulling the nut inside loose.

Indygenerallee

Man thats a bitch, I have used a 5 foot extension on a 1/2" Matco breaker bar and pull SLOW!!!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Fred

Maybe if you tap them firmly with a hammer a couple of times, that might loosen them.   :Twocents:

WD40 sucks for penetrating rust ! Unless u heat it up first !
:slap:

Heat and PB blaster, do it for awhile...eventually your gonna have to just go for it and see what happens just take your time.

I've broken one of those before...     I did not have a good day.

I recently used a product call Deep Creep from Sea Foam on some rusty, rusty, fuel line / filter nut.  Spent 2 hours trying without Deep Creep...  was about ready to give up and cut the fuel line when someone suggest Deep Creep!  I followed the instructions to a T...  apply wait 15 mins... tap...  apply wait 30 mins... tap...  apply wait 1 hour...  etc...   the nut was removed without issue and I was able to replace the filter without ruining the fuel line.

Probably won't help if the nut is cross threaded...

What is a good source for heat?  I only have a little propane torch, I don't think it's up for the job. I'm also assuming the engine should be out for this too...

Charger-Bodie

just do one at a time. The small torch will do the job, just gonna take some time.

If you use heat be very carefull, your fuel line is close by. Shield it with a piece of tin or other non flammable, also would be a good idea to have a Friend watching from top to act as fire watch. Just ask me how I know, all most burnt the garage down one time, but that is another story.
