Is the 250 casting really the 906?

I am finishing up an econo 68 440 build and have two sets of heads to pick from, 906 and 250.
The 906's will need guides and the 250 are real low mile and are bolt on.  I'm on a budget so I'm leaning toward the 250s.
When I look at them side by side I can see that the exhaust ports are quite a bit more restrictive than the 906s.

Will the 250s choke the 440 on the exhaust?  I'm not looking for a 6000rpm motor, I'm more interested in the driveability and torque.
The 250s were from a 3832bbl I had.

Thanks

The 250 casting was kind of an oddball I believe it was only used around 68 and or 69, it has the least desirable ports and combustion chamber of the mid 60's until the end of production of the big block. It has the smaller ports of the the 516 head but has the open combustion chamber of the 906, the 250 castings should work ok but you will probably be down a little bit on power compared to the 906 heads.

Use the 906's your cam will thank you.

Thanks for the tip.  I was suprised at how different the exhaust ports are between the heads.
Especially when a lot of places report that the 250 is the 906 with a different casting number.

The 250 was 2bbl 383 for just 1/2 year of 68. They are not even covered in my Mopar HP book, probably great in a big truck with an RV cam.

The 250 Casting is NOT the 906 head with a different casting number, and has a completely different Intake Port as well.

IMO, Whatever "places" are reporting this, is filled with wannabe numbskulls .....who have never actually had the Heads apart.
That said,
as long as the valves are not "sunk" in the castings, the 250's can be made to work decently with a minor port cleanup in the bowls.

Thanks.  I think I'm better off just getting the valves done in the 906s.
Theres shop around here that does a good job on guides for 290.00 with reassembly.
