Daytona Fuel sending unit

Does anyone know why the Hemi/440 fuel sending unit has a different part number for 68, 69 and 70? Also the part number for 68(3004180) is higher than the 69 part number(2932962).

But dont the superceded numbers always go higher? In this case a 68 part has a higher number than a 69 part. Is that common? I have not seen it before. I also wonder what the differences are if any in the part.

Here are my thoughts on this fuel sending unit issue. The 1968 part number 3004180 is from a group of electrical component numbers and the 1969 part number 2932962 is from a group of fuel component numbers. I can see where each is logical but someone pulled a number from the wrong catagory. It is also possible that in 1968 they ran out of electrical numbers and had to grab another block of numbers? Then it looks like an earlier part has a higher number? I would be curious to see both of these parts side by side as they eventually both supercede to the same part number 3420847.
